Issue 1 February 2020

Hello to one and all. As you can imagine there is not much aviation being committed at present. This winter has been the worst I can remember for wind and rain. Having said that I had one of the best days flying ever the Sunday at the start of the month no wind could see for ever the sun going down over Cader Idris, fantastic.

I have been thinking for a while that students and ex students are not always aware of events and opportunities on offer or for that matter news of how others are getting along. So with that in mind I am going to try and put together a monthly newsletter to email to one and all who have an interest in Dragon Wings and microlighting at Welshpool.

Last year provided some spectacular flights when the weather played ball. Also some flights that did not go to plan, the most notable being an aborted flight to the Scilly Isles, when five aircraft diverted to five different airfields.

One exceptional flight was to the Isle of White. Leaving Welshpool around 10:00 in G-DAGN with overcast cloud at 2500ft we flew south and met clear blue skies which took us all the way to the Isle of White. A brief stop at Popham for a comfort brake and fuel got us to Sandown for lunch.

As the picture shows the weather was tropical a BBQ was in progress and a band was playing . The flight back was as spectacular with a fuel stop at Kemble a great day was had by one and all.

Highlights to the last year
Two students pass their GST’s

Brian Cottle who passed his test on a challenging day in July.

Rebecca Manning who got to take her test in December after being weather off three times. Well done to both of them.
